David Silva scored the only goal as Manchester City won for the first time in three Barclays Premier League matches to drop Wigan Athletic to the bottom of the table.
Silva took a shot from the edge of the penalty area that Latics goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi failed to hold on to and it trickled through his legs and into the net.
